How to Get Your Maine Business Found on Google
By Jeremy Lizzotte · July 3, 2026 · 6 min read
Ask any Maine business owner what they want from the internet and the answer is almost always the same: “I want to show up when someone searches for what I do.” Fair enough. Here is the plain-English version of how that actually happens — no jargon, no gimmicks.
There are two places you can show up
When someone searches “plumber near me” or “wedding venue central Maine,” Google shows two things: the map pack (the little map with three businesses pinned to it) and the regular blue links below it. They are won in different ways, and you want both.
1. Set up your Google Business Profile (free, and the biggest lever)
The map pack is powered by Google Business Profiles. It is free, it takes about twenty minutes, and it is the single fastest way to appear in local searches. Claim your profile, pick the right category, add your hours, service area, photos, and phone number, and keep it current. For a lot of local Maine businesses, this alone puts you on the map — literally — within weeks.
2. Have a real website with your town and services on it
The blue links are websites. If you do not have one, you cannot appear there. Your site should clearly say what you do, the towns you serve, and how to reach you. A Facebook page will not cut it here — Google rarely ranks those for local service searches.
3. Get reviews
Reviews are one of the strongest signals for the map pack. You do not need hundreds — a steady trickle of honest 5-star reviews from real customers beats a competitor sitting on the same twelve reviews from three years ago. Just ask happy customers, every time.
4. Keep your name, address, and phone identical everywhere
Google cross-checks your business info across the web. If your phone number is different on Facebook than on your website than on Yelp, that inconsistency works against you. Pick one exact format and use it everywhere.
5. Be patient — but stack the deck
New websites are not trusted overnight; Google takes weeks to fully index and rank a fresh site. The businesses that win are the ones that get the fundamentals right early and let time do its work.
Every site we build ships with the on-page pieces Google looks for — clean structure, your town and services, fast mobile pages, and proper local markup — as a $300 flat fee, with a mockup before you pay. Pair that with a Google Business Profile and reviews, and you have covered the whole checklist.
Bottom line: getting found on Google is not a secret. Claim your Google Business Profile, put up a real website with your town and services, collect reviews, keep your info consistent, and give it time. Do those five things and you will show up.
